When Can I Go Back to School If I Have the Flu?
I think I have the flu. How long should I stay home from school?
– Brent*
Well done for knowing you need to stay home from school. With H1N1 (swine) flu going around, staying home at the first sign of flu symptoms is the best way to stop the virus from spreading. Resting up at home might also help you recover faster.
People who have any type of flu should stay home until at least 24 hours after their fever has gone away on its own (without the help of fever-reducing medications). Of course, if you still don't feel better even after your fever is gone, you'll want to rest up until you do.
Call your doctor for advice when you first notice a fever and other flu symptoms — especially if you have a health condition like asthma or diabetes.
